Adrenaline pumping fun…. Laser Quest, Megazone, Q-zar (Quasar), Dark Zone, etc are all based on the same idea and basic setup. Exploring darkened labyrinthian themed areas, armed with laser rifles and body packs you navigate the maze of passages as red laser beams pierce through the dark. Will you get the opposition team before they get you?

The length of game depends on where you play and what type of game they are playing (some run special extended sessions. Expect total game time usually to be around 20-30 minutes, but you'll come out feeling that you've been in there for much longer! and players usually need a rest between games. It is not to everybody's taste, but if you've never done it take the opportunity to try it out. It is suitable for adults and children.

The best centres are those which have a fair amount of space, have well designed labyrinths and are also marshelled (most are). When planning for group visits ask about offers and most centres offer special party packages (eg 2 or 3 games + refreshment for set price) or can be hired out on a corporate basis.

If you are concerned about the use of lasers you will find the guns only use a low power visible red laser for 'sighting' when the trigger is pressed. The actual shot is a very narrow invisible infra red beam emitted at the same time (hence the need for a darkened area). In the arena there is no time when playing to be stupid and games are normally marshaled by staff.

Paintball is a good team building exercise and not just for the boys... There are a large number of very good female players. It is also more more popular than lazer tag (it is certainly more advertised) as it less restricted to where it can be played which can be anything from woodland to old factories. If you not already aware of it paintball gets it name from the small rounds of paintballs that explode on contact and using specialised air guns. The high velocity of the paintballs means this is not so suitable for young children. Take advice from your local centre and some offer special junior events, also ask around as some centres are better (and safer) than others. 

Virtually all centres provide full protective gear, but its not unusual for players to end up with bruises if they get hit!

Paintball is usually organised as full day or half day events. A set amount of ammunition is provided within the price for each player, with the option to buy more. For full day events food may or may not be included in the price.

Challenge and fun for anybody! As well as outdoor centres there are a number of indoor centres around with climbing walls where you can practice and get experience of this challenging sport in a safe and well supervised environment.

Definetly worth considering for an evening or hour or two, particularly if you have one that's within easy reach. Bowling under ultraviolet (dark) light is becoming increasinly popular so look out for venues that supply these. Also makes a good trip for youth groups or parties.
