All in together, boys and girls (everyone runs into the rope and starts
skipping)
Never mind the weather, boys and girls
When I count twenty, the rope must be empty
Five, ten, fifteen, twenty (everyone runs out of the rope)
When I count ten, the rope must be full again
Five, ten (everyone runs back in)
When I count two, you must touch your shoe
One, two
When I count four, you must touch the floor
Two, four
When I count six, you must do the splits
Two, four, six (jump in the air with legs apart)
"All in, All in, All in
Together just like the weather, when i say your birthday please jump out
January
February
March
April
May
June
July
August
September
October
November
December"
One person in the rope at a time
All the boys (or girls) in our town aren't very nice
Except for (name of someone in the group of the opposite sex to the skipper) -
he's (she's) alright
Took me to the pictures
Sat me on his (her) knee
Said "Dear darling, won't you marry me?"
"Yes, no, maybe so,
Yes, no, maybe so ..." (repeat until the skipper stops the rope)
Two people turning the rope and one person in the middle.
Raspberry,
strawberry,
apple jam tart.
Tell me the name of your sweet heart.
At this point the rope is spun very fast while the alphabet is chanted. The person skipping has to name a boy, preferably in their school class or year (if there are boys) that begin with the letter on which they trip on the rope.
A game that needs a long rope: Skippers line up ready to run in, and chant:
All in together, friends,
Never mind the weather, friends,
When it's your birthday, Please run in!
January,
February,
March,
April ...etc
It's great when we can get through the whole year!
"We played this in Essex in the 80s.. great days..........."
Bumper car, bumper car
Number 48
Whizzed round the cor.......ner ( you leave the rope, run round one of the turners and return to skip)
Slammed on the brakes
Policeman caught me
Sent me to jail
How many bottles of ginger ale
1,2, 3... ...
Our veriosn of "Bumper car" - Another one: One child is in the rope:
Bubble car, Bubble car
Number 48
Turning round the co...........rner (draw out saying 'corner' as the skipper
leaves the rope to run round one of the turners, and then back into the rope)
and then put on the brake (stop the rope between your legs)
1 person in the middle of the rope.
Cinderella dressed in yella,
How many kisses can she get?
1 - 2 - 3 - ... and so on
Two people holding each end, 1 person skips.
Cinderella dressed in yella
Went upstairs to kiss a fella.
By mistake,
She kissed a snake,
How many doctors did it take?
1, 2, 3, 4, .....
Continue until tripped or missed a jump.
I am a girl guide dressed in blue,
These are the actions I can do,
Stand "at ease",
Bend your knees,
Salute to the officer,
Bow to the Queen,
Turn your back on the leader of the pack,
And run right through.
Grannies in the kitchen,
doin' some stitchin'
along comes a bogeyman
and chases grannie oot!
[Editor: The similarity with Mother's in the Kitchen suggests this is played the same way]
Play using a long skipping rope and as many players as possible.
"Mothers (or Father's) in the kitchen
doing a little stitching
in comes
a bugler (at that point the first person in the line runs
in and joins the mother)
and out goes she (the
mother will run out)"
I had a little motor car,
1968,
And I took it round the cooooooorner
And I slammed on the brakes.
Sometimes we did "But the brakes didn't work, so I ..." but I don't remember what we said then.
1 person in the rope, 2 turning. Person in rope sings:
I had a motor car, 1968,
took it round the corner (child runs around the turner and
jumps back in)
slammed on the brakes, but the brakes didn't work and I took it down the
hill,
I took it really fast (turners speed up rope)
and I'm going still.
The other children sing out
How fast are you going?" then count 1,2,3 etc whilst the turners keep speeding up the rope.
2 People twirl the rope with as many people in the middle as you wish, but you may want to only have 3 at a time in the middle to start off with. As you jump repeat the rhyme and do appropriate actions suggested in the rhyme.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, tie your shoe
Teddy bear, teddy bear, switch a roo
Teddy bear, teddy bear, reach up high
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the sky
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn off the light
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say good night
For more fun or difficulty add a new person each time the rhyme starts again. Try doing it without stopping the skipping rope and rythm!
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear say your prayers
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn off the light
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say goodnight
Goodnight
Teddy bear teddy bear turn around. (Turn around while
skipping)
Teddy bear teddy bear touch the ground. (Touch the ground
while skipping but be quick)
Teddy bear teddy bear do the splits. (Jump up with your
legs apart while skipping)
Teddy bear teddy bear count to six.
1......2......3......4......5......6..... (count on each
skip. Next person jumps after 6)
Something's under the bed
Don't know what it is
See your neighbour passing
Call your neighbour in
(someone joins you to skip)
Light up a candle
Under the bed she goes
Run (name of first skipper) run (name)
Here comes a ghost (first skipper leaves rope and repeat)
Vote, vote, vote for mrs "child's name"
In comes "child 2" at the door (second child runs into the rope)
She's the one to have all the fun
So we don't want "child 1" and more (first child leaves rope, sometimes there's
a shout of "Get her out" to finish the meter of the line)
Start again for child 2
